Hello Everyone!
Today was a great and busy Thursday in grade 2!
In the morning we did a 5 senses review activity that required students to identify various items and which sense they most identified them with.
Along with Mandarin and Art Enrichment class we also had our spelling quiz.
In Math this morning we were introduced to a number line. Students practiced using both a 100's chart and numbers line to count by 2's, 5's and 10's both forward and backwards and fill in any numbers missing in the sequence.
In Science today we went up onto the roof area (enclosed area) of the school where students were asked to use their 5 senses to determine what we can see, hear, feel, taste and smell during this fall weather.
During Daily 5 today students had independent reading time as well as went on a 'Punctuation Hunt' through the books that they chose to read. They were asked to find different asking sentences, telling sentences and exciting sentences. This was to practice identifying the use and differences between the period (.), questions mark (?), and exclamation mark (!).
Finally, we ended our day at the playground with the grade 2A class for Physical Education.
Recently there has been a lot of violent play (pretending to harm one another with serious weapons) among some groups of grade 2's. Today we had a serious class discussion about weapons (guns, swords, and bombs specifically) and violence. This is not something that is allowed at school and is something we need to work on stopping in our class. Parents if your could remind your child of the seriousness of these weapons at home it would be greatly appreciated. We will be discussing it more next week in class, and in the next section of our Social Studies unit that looks at the rules, consequences and procedures in our school.
REMINDER: Friday, October 24th (tomorrow) is a PD day at CBIS and there will be no classes! Enjoy your extended weekend! See you on Monday!
