Hello Everyone, We have had a very busy start to our week with our Christmas concert yesterday! We would like to thank everyone for coming to watch! Grade two's did a great job, and it was a very exciting day! Throughout these past two days we have continued to finish up our current units in Math and Science. We completed an expanded form math aid in our math journals. This aid helps us to visualize a number in its expanded form.
In Science we learned about the terms 'sink' and 'float'. We completed an experiment to test various objects and discover whether they sink or float. Then we discussed why they might sink or float depending on their weight and what they are made of.
Finally today we worked on our letters to Santa that we will be sending to the North Pole this week. Along with Mandarin, Art Enrichment, and Physical Education we also were introduced to word problems in Math and began to discuss maps and what a map is and its different parts. Students also began to create their story maps for their Christmas story writing assignment. Tomorrow they will be using their story maps to create their story boards. From there they will be writing their stories!
Finally, many CBIS classes are partnered with a class in Canada and writing to them as pen pals throughout the year. We have just sent our letters and ddakji game to our pen pals so they can learn about us and Korea. Last Friday our grade two students helped to teach the grade one's how to fold ddakji so that they too could send a new game to their pen pals. They did a very good job explaining how to fold it and helping them! See you tomorrow! Ms. Koniuch
