Happy Friday everyone!
Today we had a great Friday. Along with our Spelling Quiz we completed a Math Review working with the numbers we focused on this week, as well as continued to practice our speed in addition and subtraction on our Speed Sheets! Students are doing very well with this and improving every week!
In Language Arts we continued to read chapter 5 of our novel. In Chapter 5 Elmer meets some tigers. To keep the tigers from eating him he uses an item from his backpack. He uses the chewing gum to distract the tigers, because he remembers the cat telling him that tigers like chewing gum! He tells the tigers that the chewing gum is special and will change colour the more they chew it, and that once it changes colour they can plant it and it will grow more chewing gum. The tigers love chewing gum so they start chewing and don't see Elmer sneaking away!
Students completed a follow up activity to show their understanding of this chapter and express their visualization of what the jungle looks like based on the description given in this chapter!
In Social Studies we reviewed some map reading techniques as well as continued to discuss things in our communities that are natural landforms and those that are man-made or infrastructure.
Finally we ended our day at the playground for physical education and learning some new songs and actions in our music assembly!
Also, homework binders will be sent home on MONDAY. I am sorry we did not get them home today, we need to finish removing our work for our portfolios and all work will be sent home on Monday! Thank-you for your understanding!
Have a great weekend and have fun at the birthday party tonight!!!
See you all Monday!
Ms. Koniuch
Today's Homework:
1. Read for 20 minutes or more.
2. Journal: If you could be any kind of mammal or bird, what would you be? Why? Explain your answer using descriptions and details!
3. MANDARIN due Monday!
REMINDER: Next week we will be beginning to look at new and old communities and more specifically our communities history. I ask that students talk to you (parents) or grandparents and bring in some information about their ancestors. What are of Korea they might be from, what they did, where they lived, etc. If you have any photos you could send that would be great, if not I will be asking students to talk to you about it and write down some information about it in their journals. They have until Friday, January 30th to get this information as we will be then using it in class!
Thank-you for you help! ^^
